Meghan Kessler - Civics Education

Dr. Meghan Kessler, an assistant professor at the University of Illinois - Springfield, discusses social studies education at UIS, including the program’s course requirements, pre-teaching experiences, and other state social studies requirements. She reviews how UIS social studies majors can address controversial topics, as well as civic engagement in the community and service learning projects, all part of Illinois’s semester-long high school civics course requirements established in the landmark 2017 civics education legislation.
