Christine Johnson - Public School Funding

Christine Johnson, the County Treasurer for DeKalb County, explains the duties of a treasurer, especially in relation to the funding for public schools. She served as Treasurer from 1994-2011 & 2013 to the time of the interview. Johnson discusses the property tax cycle, the deadlines set for paying property tax bills, the distribution process for the 186 governmental bodies in the county (60% go to K-12 Public School districts), and the types of property located in DeKalb County. Christine also talks about the impact of wind farms, the use of TIFs and Enterprise Zones, and a treasurer's working relationship with county clerks and the Supervisor of Assessments.
