Special Exhibits

The Second American Revolution

Run Dates: June 5, 2026 – January 17, 2027

Examine how the Civil War and Reconstruction transformed the United States, turning a struggle to preserve the Union into a fight to redefine freedom and citizenship. Part of the nationwide commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, this exhibit features artifacts from our collection, including a signed copy of the 13th Amendment, and explores how the promises of equality have continued to shape the American story.

Pillars of Democracy: Unite & Rise Tour

Run Dates: May 15-31, 2026

Join us in celebrating women’s vital role in democracy and the hard work it took to achieve it. Pillars of Democracy by artist Niki Johnson features mixed-media portraits inspired by the women’s suffrage movement and created using materials from a 2020 mural by Shepard Fairey. Blending past and present, the exhibition explores themes of liberty, justice, freedom, and civic participation through striking visual imagery. Original works are on display in the ALPLM library building, prints are displayed in the museum’s West Corridor.

America’s Block Party

July 4 | Union Square Park

Join us in celebrating our country’s 250th anniversary with live music, food trucks, games and family fun as part of the largest synchronized Fourth of July celebration in U.S. history: America's Block Party. Enjoy free admission to the museum during our daytime festivities, which wrap up just in time for you to head out and enjoy the fireworks.

Future Presidents of America Youth Leadership Camp

June 8-12

Each summer, we invite twenty young leaders, ages 13–16, to participate in the Future Presidents of America Youth Leadership Camp. As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, this innovative program encourages participants to explore America’s founding ideals while building confidence, civic literacy, and strong character. Through engaging experiences, students develop the qualities that shape thoughtful citizens and future leaders.

Ronald Reagan Debate Series

June 20 | Registration closes June 15

We are proud to host the 2026 Illinois Regional Invitational of the Ronald Reagan Debate Series, welcoming high school students in grades 9–12 to compete for a share of $50,000 in scholarships. Hosted by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute, this engaging competition mirrors traditional presidential debates and emphasizes practical communication skills like civility, storytelling, and persuasive leadership. This year’s topic reflects the nation’s 250th anniversary: “Resolved: As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary of self-governance, the Electoral College should be replaced by the popular vote in presidential elections.”
