Jon Schmidt - Civics Education

Jon Schmidt, a faculty member at Loyola University's School of Education and former director for Democracy, Education and Student Leadership for the Chicago Public Schools, discusses Loyola's civics instruction, part of social studies education at Loyola. He looks at the various civic education projects which existed in the Chicago public schools even before the state-wide Civics education law was passed in 2019. He discussed Chicago's service learning requirement, the BOLD Institute, Democracy Education, the Global Citizenship Initiative, the Student Leadership project and the Democracy School project.
