Robert Ritter - Vietnam War

Robert Ritter served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from July 1967 to January 1969. While assigned to the USS Canberra, a guided-missile cruiser, he often supported combat operations off the shores of Vietnam. Ritter operated and maintained fire control equipment, especially for the ship’s 3-inch and 5-inch guns, which were used to support ground troops on shore. While Ritter served on the ship, the USS Canberra was normally based in San Diego, California, but also made port in Subic Bay, the Philippines for repairs and crew R & R. ​​​
