Grant Miller - Civics Education

Dr. Grant Miller, the coordinator for Curriculum and Assessment at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale, discusses Social Studies Education at SIU-C. He reviews the school's methods classes, their course content, as well as the use of primary sources and media literacy experiences. Dr. Miller looks at the ways the school prepares social studies education majors using Illinois’s 2017 Social Studies Standards and its new civics mandate for middle and high schools. He finishes his discussion with a review of the impact at SIU-C due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.
