Margaret Hawkins - Central Illinois Charities

Margaret Hawkins began working for the Storybook Project in 1997. The project is under the auspices of the Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, which receives support from Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) congregations throughout central Illinois. The Storybook Project helps children stay connected to their incarcerated moms and dads. Incarcerated parents choose a donated book and volunteers record them reading the book from prison, while encouraging the parent to end with a special message of love and support. A package with the book and the CD recording is mailed to the children so they may read along.
