Jay Mann - Civics Education

Dr. Jay Mann, the Director of School and Community Experiences at the College of Education, University of Illinois, discusses the University's student teacher course requirements and how prospective social studies teachers are prepared through methods classes, field and clinical experiences and student teaching. This includes civics education where future teachers experience ways to teach controversial subjects, to provide students with service projects, and to include simulations in classroom instruction. Dr. Mann also discussed the changes made in social studies teaching over a two decade period.
