Ruth Jackson moved to Springfield, Illinois, as a young woman in 1954. She discusses her marriage to George Sidney “Sid” Jackson; their children; Springfield schools; her husband’s work in the hotel business; her own work as a nursing assistant; urban renewal and the changes it brought to East Side neighborhoods; African-American churches in Springfield; Springfield city government; and her work with various community organizations.
