Mark Flotow - Historians Speak

Author Mark Flotow discusses his book "In Their Letters, In Their Words: Illinois Civil War Soldiers Write Home," a collection of quotes from letters written by Illinois's Civil War soldiers to their loved ones and friends back home. Flotow spent several years combing the vast collection of Civil War soldier letters archived at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library’s manuscript department. He organized the book by themes, using excerpts from 165 correspondents. Mark was interviewed by Dr. Mark DePue, the ALPL oral historian, for the Museum's Facebook Live series.
