Julie Donner - Civics Education

Julie Donner, who teaches social studies courses at Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois, discusses how the state of Illinois's new civics requirement is being implemented at Carmel Catholic. She notes that civics had long been a requirement at school even before the new state mandate. Julie discusses the types of service projects that are used, and the civics course content, which includes discussions on current events in the classroom. She also reviewed the new state social studies standards and those standards' impact at Carmel Catholic. Thanks in part to her efforts, Carmel Catholic has become a Democracy School.
