Jennifer Burdette - Civics Education

Jennifer Burdette, who teaches social studies and civics classes at Spoon River Valley High School, discusses the challenges of teaching civics at a small rural school. As a civics teaching mentor through the McCormick Foundation, she provides insights into teaching controversial subjects, media literacy and the use of service projects for the students. The interview was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Burdette also discusses the challenges that remote learning presented to her students.
