We Didn't Start the Fire: Using Pop Music to Teach Contemporary History

March 6th, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

Join Corinne Claycomb, ALPLM Site Interpreter, in this interactive session that seeks to inspire educators to explore the staggering playlist of pop music that can enhance lessons about pivotal moments in contemporary history. Whether introducing a difficult subject, prompting a writing exercise, or providing texture to an important event, music provides additional layers and insight by merging the past with the present through infectious hooks and clever lyrics. During this hands on-session, we'll share listening strategies and ready-to-use playlists for your classroom. Participants will earn 2.0 CPDUs.

NOTE: This workshop is a repeat of a Conference on Illinois History session. We’ve also created a fun Bonus Track session that will build on what you learn today – it's offered on April 12 as part of the PD in Your PJs series.
