Abstract

Towfig Arjmand, Immigrant Stories, IM-A-L-2010-033


Biographical Information Overview of Interview: Dr. Towfig Arjmand was born on June 4, 1929 in Kermanshah, Iran. He was raised and educated in Iran, up through college, as well as a combined pre-med and medical degree program, at which time he left Iran in 1956 to continue his medical studies in the United States on a student’s visa. After completing his residency at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois in 1961, Dr. Arjmand decided to remain in the United States and eventually became a U.S. citizen in 1968. Dr. Arjmand shared his views on life in Iran under the Shah’s reign and his experiences as an immigrant.

Dr. Arjmand worked for many years as an anesthesiologist at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, and is now retired. In 1960 he married Beryl Hobbs, and the couple resides in Springfield, Illinois.
