Gary Allen describes the history of Southeastern Illinois College from 1970-2013. Professor Allen taught and was head of the Communication Department. He also coached the Forensics Team. This team has been successful at State/National events. He was interviewed on the date listed below as part of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library’s Education is Key-Community College Oral History project.

Biographical Information Overview of Interview: Gary Allen was born in Warren County, Indiana in 1943. He graduated from Danville High School in 1961, and went on to earn his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communications from Illinois State University. He began his teaching at Kaskaskia Community College prior to coming to Southeastern Illinois College. At Southeastern Illinois College, he taught and then chaired the communication department. He was also a long time forensic coach; in fact, in 2000 the college renamed the forensic area in his honor. Today Gary is completing his 10th year as a school trustee, where he has served as both chair and vice chair.
