Work Case 1

Surveyor

While in New Salem, Lincoln also tried his hand at land surveying. After teaching himself the practice, Lincoln completed several surveys between 1834 and 1836, earning himself a reputation for good work. This small reproduction of a life-size monument by John McClarey (which now stands at New Salem Historic Site) depicts a 25-year-old Lincoln working with his survey tools.
