21 Star Flag Ceremony

July 3rd, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Museum

For a single year more than two centuries ago, America’s flag contained 21 stars to mark Illinois becoming the 21st state. Those flags are incredibly rare today, but the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum has obtained one – a red, white and blue symbol of America’s growth and Illinois’ historic contributions to the nation. Join us Thursday, July 3, as we place this unique artifact on display. An ALPLM historian will discuss the flag’s significance and what has been done to preserve it, and the 10th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry Regiment Band will perform patriotic music and tunes from the Civil War era.
