Book Club for Educators - - The Second Founding: How the Civil War and Reconstruction Remade the Constitution

December 5th - 5th

Join the ALPLM’s Education and Research departments as we read and discuss Eric Foner’s The Second Founding: How the Civil War and Reconstruction Remade the Constitution.

Although the Declaration of Independence announced equality as an American ideal, it took the Civil War and the subsequent adoption of three constitutional amendments to establish that ideal as American Law. Join us as we discuss Eric Foner’s insightful history that traces the arc of the pivotal Reconstruction amendments that abolished slavery, guaranteed all people due process and equal protection of the law, and granted black men the right to vote.

This virtual Book Club for Educators invites you to come as you are, drink what you want, and chat about great books with your peers. This virtual event is free, but registration is required. All participants who read The Second Founding and attend the discussion will receive 6.5 CPDUs.
