A House That Made History: The Illinois Governor's Mansion, Legacy of an Architectural Treasure

October 4th, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is proud to welcome Illinois’ First Lady, MK Pritzker, to our Union Theater on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, as she discusses the unique history of the largest and third oldest governor’s mansion in the United States.

You’ll not only learn about the lives and times of some of the mansion’s renowned residents and visitors – including Abraham Lincoln and FDR – but you’ll also gain a greater appreciation of the mansion’s interiors and its architecture, and how it changed with the culture and style of the times. The First Lady called upon her friend, Michael S. Smith, designer of the Obama White House, to collaborate with her to bring alive the rooms of the mansion with an eye towards creating welcoming spaces that preserve the history and culture of the people of Illinois.

The program will allow time for questions at the conclusion of the presentation. MK Pritzker will be available for signing copies of her new book, A House That Made History: The Illinois Governor's Mansion, Legacy of an Architectural Treasure, immediately following the Q & A.

Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. Program begins at 6:30 p.m. Reserve your spot now!

Tickets for the program are available in advance for $10 per person. You may also purchase a copy of the book for $65. Your copy will be reserved and available for signing by MK Pritzker, following the program. 100% of the book sales will be donated to The Illinois Governor's Mansion Association to ensure the future upkeep and preservation of the Governor’s Mansion.
