History Happy Hour: Is it Bad Luck, or Just the 19th Century?

October 18th - 18th

Stop by Anvil & Forge Brewing and Distilling after work on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 5:30pm to grab a drink and hear an engaging story during "History Happy Hour."

In time for Halloween, join Sarah Adams from Edwards Place and the Springfield Art Association and learn about the harms that commonly seemed to befall those that were associated with the Benjamin S. Edwards family in the Enos Park neighborhood. From maiming, to illness, to dying in a Chicago fire, it seemed that neighbors and servants of the Edwards family couldn’t catch a break. While gruesome, the events surrounding these unfortunate circumstances also shed a light on the state of medicine, regulation, and other factors in the 19th century that on the surface appear to be bad luck. Explore their lives…and deaths…at History Happy Hour!

This is a free program, but you must be 21 years or older to attend.

History Happy Hour is a partnership program between the Illinois State Museum and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
