Book Club for Educators: Four Hundred Souls: A Community History of African America

February 7th, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm

Join the ALPLM’s Education and Research departments as we read and discuss Ibram X. Kendi’s and Keisha N. Blain’s edited book, Four Hundred Souls: A Community History of African America, 1619-2019. In the book, ninety writers use a variety of formats, including short stories, personal vignettes, and historical essays, to examine a five-year period across the four hundred years under study. Although themes such as “resistance and struggle” and “hope and reinvention” run through the book, through a variety of voices that embrace a range of experiences, the stories push back against the notion that Africans in America are a monolith.

This virtual Book Club for Educators invites you to come as you are, drink what you want, and chat about great books with your peers. This virtual event is free, but registration is required. All participants who read Four Hundred Souls: A Community History of African America, 1619-2019 and attend the discussion will receive 9.0 CPDUs.
