History Happy Hour - Oscar J. Dunn: The Disappearance of a Hero

February 15th, 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Stop by Anvil & Forge Brewing and Distilling after work on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 5:30pm to grab a drink and hear an engaging story from ALPLM's Director of Research, Dr. Brian Mitchell, during "History Happy Hour."

Few Americans know the name of the nation’s first Black executive officer, Lt. Governor Oscar James Dunn, and even fewer know details of his extraordinary life. Born enslaved, Dunn would become the highest ranking African American politician in his lifetime. Revered as a politician of sterling character, Dunn’s death would be shrouded in mystery and his memory erased from history by Lost Cause historians. Discover Oscar J. Dunn at History Happy Hour!

This is a free program to attend, but you must be 21 years or older to attend.

History Happy Hour is a partnership program between the Illinois State Museum and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
