Book Club for Educators: Why Learn History (When it's Already on Your Phone)

July 19th - 19th

With the internet always at our students’ fingertips, what’s a teacher of history (or any subject, really) to do? The solution, according to Sam Wineburg in Why Learn History (When It’s Already on Your Phone), is an orientation to the world that we can cultivate in our students—one that encourages reasoned skepticism, discourages haste, and counters our tendency to confirm our biases. Join the ALPLM’s Education team as we discuss Wineburg’s work and the importance of critical thinking in the classroom.

The Book Club for Educators programs follow the format of PD in Your PJs, inviting you to come as you are, drink what you want, and chat about great books with your peers. This virtual event is free, but registration is required. All participants who read Why Learn History and attend the book club discussion will receive 6.5 CPDUs.
