Facebook LIVE! Celebrating 50 Years of the Lincoln Home National Historic Site

Join the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and the National Park Service in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the historic Lincoln home becoming a National Park Service historic site.

Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln purchased the home at 413 South 8th Street in Springfield in 1844. Three Lincoln children were born in the home. One child, Eddy, died there. It was the only home ever owned by Lincoln.

The home was deeded to the State of Illinois by Lincoln’s son, Robert Todd Lincoln in 1887. On August 18, 1971, President Nixon authorized making the home a National Historical Site and it remains one today.

ALPLM Lincoln Historian Christian McWhirter will be joined by Susan Haake and Tim Townsend from the Lincoln Home to discuss its history, how it changed over the years, and the impact the National Park Service has had in preserving and maintaining the home, which serves as a centerpiece in sharing the Lincoln legacy with the nation and world.
