Facebook LIVE! Tales from the Vault - Adlai Stevenson II: The Life of an Illinois Globalist

June 3rd, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

US Ambassador to the United Nations. Two-time presidential candidate. Illinois governor. Three important roles in the life of Adlai Stevenson II. However, these brief descriptions barely scratch the surface in telling the story of a man who dedicated his life to public service for his state, nation, and the world.

Join ALPLM Illinois and Midwest Studies Historian Dr. Jacob K. Friefeld for the June virtual edition of Tales from the Vault, Thursday, June 3 at 12pm Central time, from the ALPLM’s Stevenson Reading Room, as he takes a closer look at the life of the celebrated statesman from Illinois.

You’ll learn about Stevenson’s life of public service that began well before winning the 1948 Illinois gubernatorial election by a record margin and attracting the attention of national party leaders urging him to run for president in 1952. And, you’ll discover that even in the face of defeat, Stevenson continued to answer the call to serve the greater good right up until his untimely death in 1965.
