Work Case 2

Digging Up New Salem

In the early 2000s, archaeologists uncovered this brick near the site of Abraham Lincoln’s New Salem store. Dating from the mid-1830s and probably not structural, it suggests Lincoln sold bricks as part of his business. It emphasizes how Lincoln would have stocked a wide variety of practical items to foster the village’s rising status.
