Grandpa Abraham
President Abraham Lincoln inherited the name of his grandfather—a Revolutionary war veteran and farmer—who likely used this sundial in his work. He moved to Kentucky in the early 1780s amidst conflict with its indigenous people, one of whom killed him in front of his son Thomas—the future president’s father—in May 1786.
