Dr. Karen Anderson, Education is Key-Community College, EC-A-L-2013-008
Biographical Information Overview of Interview: Dr. Karen Anderson was born in Port Huron, Michigan in April, 1954. She graduated from Port Huron High School in 1972 and then earned a BA from Kalamazoo College and a MA and Ph.D. from the University of Louisville, earning degrees in English and Spanish. She has worked for University of Louisville (1980-1984), Midway College, Kentucky (1985), Milliken University (1986-1988), Springfield College (1980-1991), and Ursuline Academy in Springfield (1991-1998). Since 1999, she has worked at the Illinois Community College (ICC) Board and is now Vice President Executive Director of the Board. At ICC she worked with Work Force Initiatives, Education to Careers, Student Development, Adult Education, Academic Affairs and Research.
Dr. Karen Anderson has 11 years of experience with the Illinois Community College Board, and shortly after her interview became the Executive Director for the Illinois Community College System. Her interview highlights the ICC Board’s duties and how Illinois Community Colleges work with four years institutions and college transfers, certification training, adult education, and both public and private high schools. She discusses how the state’s community colleges reflect the needs of the communities and students within the college boundaries.
