PD in Your PJs: Teaching Hard Histories through Creative Expression, Corinne Claycomb

October 20th, 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

o For the PD in Your PJs series, we invite you to come as you are, drink what you want, engage with the experts, and leave with 1.0 CPDU credit.

o Introducing hard histories, or topics that come with complex stories and evoke strong emotions, can be daunting. Incorporating art into the classroom can feel like further complicating the already challenging practice of introducing hard histories. Providing examples of creative expression representing troubling periods of our nation’s past can catalyze important classroom conversations about histories that need to be preserved and stories that must be shared. Join Cori Claycomb, Curator of Art and History Education for the Illinois State Museum, as we discuss the role that art can play in the history classroom and how it can help develop and foster empathy, cultural awareness, and critical thinking in our students.

This is a free program, but advance registration is required.
