History Happy Hour: The Battle at Guntown

September 18th - 18th

Stop by Anvil & Forge Brewing and Distilling after work on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 5:30pm to grab a drink and hear the personal stories of Illinois soldiers straight from Civil War battlefields during "History Happy Hour."

ALPLM Manuscripts Curator Chris Schnell will recount the stories of Illinois soldiers in the Battle of Brice’s Cross Roads (also known as the Battle of Guntown or the Battle of Tishomingo Creek) during the Civil War.

You’ll hear the stories of Black soldiers from two of the first regiments to see action in Mississippi, as well as Albert Cashier (seen by many historians as Trans), and you’ll learn how one soldier’s love letters saved him from an all but certain death on the battlefield!

History Happy Hour is a partnership program between the Illinois State Museum and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
