Special Performance: "Small Beginnings"

The spring season marks the return of “Small Beginnings” to our Union Theater stage.  This original live theater performance debuted at the ALPLM in the spring of 2022. This one-act play tells the remarkable story of Robert Smalls, a man who led an enslaved entourage to freedom by way a bold riverboat escape plan through Confederate waters in 1862. Smalls and his team captured a heavily armed confederate ship and sailed it into Union territory. Smalls’ story is inspirational and one that can be told no better than through our talented staff.

Reggie Guyton portrays Captain Smalls and Randy Erwin provides a moving musical soundtrack for each performance.

The one-act play will be presented on a regular basis through June. Tickets are free with regular admission to the museum.
