PD in Your PJs: “We Sing the Jubilee:” Using Music to Teach the Civil War

January 22nd - 22nd

For the PD in Your PJs series, we invite you to come as you are, drink what you want, engage with the experts, and leave with 1.0 CPDU credit.

Music was a fundamental aspect of how Americans experienced the Civil War. In the previous two decades, the music industry had matured into a major component of American culture, making songs one of the primary ways people interacted with and communicated the thoughts and feelings inspired by the conflict. This makes songs a useful tool for understanding the war. Join Lincoln Historian Christian McWhirter for a discussion of music’s role in the Civil War and how it can be explored in the classroom.

This is a free program, but advance registration is required.
