PD in Your PJs, City as Inspiration: Examples in Muralism, Community, and Urban Exploration

September 19th, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm

In this session led by Arts Educator Onyx Montes, learn about how the three greats of Mexican Muralism drew inspiration from their surroundings, and how that was reflected in their practice and work.

We will also cover local examples focusing on artists of color such as Alkebuluan Merriweather, Wesley Willis, and Amanda Williams and analyze how artists draw on inspiration from their communities to create large scale and digital works. Attendees will leave with an increased awareness and knowledge of local artists, a broader history of the muralist movement, and tools to help students talk about art, including Visual Thinking Strategies or VTS.
